Argentina Government Grants Final Recognition to Private University in Buenos Aires

The national government has definitively authorized the River Plate University Institute to function as a private university institution with its headquarters in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, after completing the evaluation process established by the Higher Education Law and meeting the academic, institutional, and economic-financial requirements demanded by the university system. According to what Argentine News Agency learned, the measure was officially formalized through Decree 889/2025, published in the Official Gazette, and is framed within the provisions of Article 65 of Law No. 24.521, which regulates the final recognition of private universities that have successfully completed their provisional stage of operation. As detailed in the considerations of the regulation, the Institute—provisionally authorized since 2010—requested final recognition in accordance with the procedures established in Decree No. 576/96. This process included technical and academic evaluations and the intervention of the National Commission for University Evaluation and Accreditation (CONEAU). In its report, CONEAU recommended granting final recognition, stating that “the institution’s denomination corresponds to the development of disciplinary areas planned in its institutional project” and that “its mission and vision are adequate and coherent with the proposed objectives.” It also highlighted that the project includes the development of teaching, research, and extension functions, as established by current regulations. The report also indicated that “no objections were raised regarding the moral, financial, and economic responsibility of the entity’s applicants,” and that the academic offer is aligned with its main purpose: knowledge oriented towards sports, recreation, and physical education, with careers that have been favorably evaluated. Although recommendations were made to continue strengthening research and extension areas, CONEAU concluded that the Institute “is in a position to exercise the powers granted to private universities with final recognition.” Consequently, the decree authorizes the River Plate University Institute, with its legal address at Avenida Presidente Figueroa Alcorta 7597, to operate fully within the framework of the Higher Education Law.
